The popular resale platform has updated its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel but did not contact every member regarding the update. Social Media Backlash Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a different size category than originally posted due to the recalibration. Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches similar services. The platform has recommended to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance. Measurement Approach Updates Before the change, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10. The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10. For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - such as a large size was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18. Member Experiences One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling". "Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes. Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22. "If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained. Necessary Adjustments Charlotte Lunn, located in England, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products". "For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she explained. Platform Context The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK. It has emerged as a preferred choice compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop. This isn't the first time that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
