It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
