Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior official stated the vandalism made him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
